I have a 7 month old mini schnauzer…every time we drive along with him and/or going for a walk and a fire truck siren passes by he howls along with it. I was just wondering if that is a normal thing? and why do they do it?

Yes its normal. Dog’s have sensitive hearing and more than likely he doesnt like the noise and howls. Don’t be alarmed by it or anything, a lot of dogs do it.

the high pitch of the sirens hurt their ears and alot of dogs do it yes it is normal
Absolutely normal. The sound hurts his ears.
Dogs howl to communicate with each other. Your dog thinks the siren is another dog calling out. He’s just answering. There’s nothing abnormal about it. It has nothing to do with the noise hurting his ears.
Totally normal. The loud sirens just hurt the dog’s sensitive ears. I work at a dog daycare downtown, and you could only imagine how loud it gets after firetrucks and ambulences drive by!
Yes. My first two dogs did that. It’s either an irritation to them, or they are singing along with it.
I have a schnoodle. schnauzer, poodle cross. He barks at helicopters, sings to opera and tries to attack collinders, yes collinders because he’s total pertrifyed of them. He dosent even like me holding one in case it gets me!! Tv ads crack me up, if any opera comes on he runs to the tv and howls, (sings). Christmas is interesting., with all the carols. It’s just the schnauzer intelligence. It makes them very quirky. Perfectly normal,in an abnormal sort of way, lol.
yes it is normal for your dog to howl with the fire truck because it hurts the dogs ears.
yes it is normal. animals, especially dogs, have sensitive ears and extremely good hearing. Your dog howls with the firetrucks because the sirens are bothering his sensitive hearing just like any other dog.
