It hurts their ears, they howl to block the sound out. My dog does it too, I think its cute.

The sound hurts her/his ears. In my neighborhood, the dogs howl when the train engineer blows the whistles.
He is telling them to keep it downn.
For some dogs it’s instinct. They howl when they hear other dogs or something that sounds like it. A form of communication.
it might not like loud noises when s/he cant find the source of the sound, or maybe it wants to join the fire dept.
dogs respond to sounds epecially high pitch ones. thats why people whistle to call dogs.

haha my dog does the same thing when the tornado sirens go off..i think they think its a dog howling so they try to follow the lead i guess..cuz the dog i have now only did it when my old dog did
